You’re covered against the loss of, or damage to, goods in transit belonging to you or for which you’re responsible, that’s caused by an accident.

Fire, explosion, collision, derailment and overturning only

We’ll cover the loss or damage of goods in transit, caused by fire, explosion, collision, derailment and overturning.

Fire, explosion, collision, derailment, overturning, theft and hi-jack only

You’re covered for the loss of, or damage to, goods in transit belonging to you or for which you’re responsible, caused by fire, explosion, collision, derailment, overturning, theft and hi-jacking.

Loss or damage to property due to or caused by

  • Wear and tear or gradual deterioration.
  • Mechanical, electronic or electrical breakdown, failure, breakage or derangement.
  • Goods not being properly secured with ropes and covered with canvas while in transit.
  • Loss, delay, loss of market, depreciation, or changes brought about by natural causes.
  • An unroadworthy vehicle.
  • An accident where the insured vehicle is towing passengers or carrying a load that exceeds the capacity for which it was constructed or licensed to carry.
  • You (or someone with your consent or knowledge) while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, driving the motor without being licensed (or with an endorsed licence), or unlawfully leaving the scene of an accident.
  • The theft of an unattended vehicle in your custody or control, or in the custody or control of your principal, partner, member, director or employee.
  • Inherent vice or defect, vermin, insects, damp, mildew or rust.
  • You, your principal, partner, member, director or employee, being dishonest, whether acting alone or in collusion with others.
  • Detention, confiscation or requisition by customs or other officials or authorities.
  • The breakdown of refrigeration equipment.
  • Incidents which occur within South Africa or Namibia, unless specific ‘Riot and strike’ cover has been obtained.
  • Consequential loss.
  • Stoppage, slowing down or the interruption of work or any process.
  • War, acts of a foreign enemy, warlike operations, military uprising, usurped power, martial law, rebellion, terrorism or revolution.
  • The act of any lawful authority in any other way dealing with any occurrence referred to in any of the clauses above.

As well as loss, or damage to

  • Cash, bank and currency notes, coins, bonds, coupons, stamps, negotiable instruments, title deeds, manuscripts or securities of any kind.
  • Property while in transit by sea or inland waterway.
